Griffin Electric is Proud to Support Women in Construction

Holliston, MA (March 2025). A leading electrical contractor throughout New England and the Southeast for nearly five decades, Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. (Griffin Electric) recognizes the many contributions of women in the construction industry and is committed to facilitating opportunities for education and career growth. With the industry celebrating Women in Construction this month, Griffin Electric understands and values the important roles that women at the company play and is proud of the significant impact they make on a daily basis.

Griffin Electric actively participates in a number of school visits and career fairs throughout the year, targeting a healthy mix of both vocational and traditional schools. Over the past year, the company participated in nearly 80 of these events across New England alone. High school students have been typically steered toward a traditional college degree, and it may now be more important than ever to continue building awareness about apprenticeship as a pathway to a fulfilling career. The mindset that college is the only pathway to future success is slowly changing, but there is still work to be done.

Respecting the different experiences and perspectives that everyone brings to the table has been key to fostering collaboration and building teams that contribute to a successful business. And while changes to the construction landscape have not happened overnight, it is important to acknowledge ongoing progress and continue to make strides toward an industry that is more reflective of the world in which we live. More than hiring talented people for its own team, Griffin Electric strives to help grow the skilled trade workforce by promoting the trades as a viable career path.

For over thirty years, Griffin Electric has been proud of the many women and men who have navigated through its in-house Apprenticeship Training Program. The fully accredited, state-approved program is a debt-free alternative to traditional schooling and guides apprentices toward becoming electricians or telecom technicians. Offered at its Holliston, MA headquarters and each of its Southeast offices in Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina, apprentices experience classroom instruction and on-the-job learning throughout the four-year program. Apprentices earn excellent compensation, full benefits, and are eligible for wage increases every six months, based on grades and work performance.

To further promote awareness and improve interest in the trades, Griffin Electric conducts outreach to organizations comprised of underrepresented groups, including Women in the Building Trades and Women Veterans Network, among others. Including people from different backgrounds opens the door to a wider talent pool, and these individuals may offer unique skills and viewpoints which can only benefit the future of the construction industry.

Investing in the education and growth of women who enter the trades remains a critical component of success. Griffin Electric offers complimentary personal and career development-related courses to help employees be their best. The company provides employees with $2,000 annually in tuition reimbursement to pursue additional educational opportunities in support of career objectives. Griffin Electric created its own development program geared toward enhancing leadership effectiveness, further underscoring its commitment to team members. The company also offers an associate degree program for licensed graduates of its apprenticeship program, covering up to 70% of tuition costs.

Griffin Electric is proud to recognize Women in Construction Week and will continue doing its part by educating others who have not historically had access to the benefits of a career in the trades, including women and young girls. Advocating and providing opportunities in construction is essential for the future success of the industry.
