In 1978, Wayne J. Griffin founded and incorporated Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. The company began with only five employees, wiring residential and small commercial/industrial projects. One
year later, the company secured the electrical contract for the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant bottling and canning line installation in Needham, MA, its first large industrial project. This began a trend for the company which would last through the present – pursuing larger projects within varying industries.
The 1980’s saw several notable projects awarded to Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc., gaining momentum for the company in the multi-million dollar
commercial/office and hospitality industries. Burlington Woods in Burlington, MA was one of the first commercial/office projects to elevate the company’s resume in terms of project size, while the Marriott Hotel, also in Burlington, provided the company with significant exposure in the hospitality industry.
Through the 1980’s, Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. continued to secure work in additional markets, including the profitable healthcare industry. North Hill Retirement Community, in Needham, MA, was the company’s first sizable contract in this new sector.
While continuing to compete for projects throughout New England during this decade, the company decided to expand its operations into the Southeast, specifically Alabama, only after securing its first large project in Birmingham – the Boeing Consolidation Building.
Late in the 1980’s and lasting through the early 1990’s, the biotechnical industry began to explode. Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. quickly took advantage of this booming market, installing cleanrooms at facilities such as Itek and Organogenesis.
After the private construction market began to slow in the late 1980’s, Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. saw great opportunity in the public sector. Municipal, state and federal projects found their way onto the company’s bid list in the 1990’s, which included schools, public safety facilities, prisons and courthouses. Some notable projects within the higher education realm included the
University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH and Duke University in Durham, NC, which ultimately led to the opening of an additional Southeast office for Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. in Cary, NC.
The company also began to offer specialized installation techniques like telecommunications and low voltage controls. In addition, its Service Division was established during this decade, offering facility maintenance and 24-hour emergency service to the company’s growing list of clients. The company began to contract with clients such as EMC Corporation during this time, providing telecommunications work and electrical maintenance to many of its facilities, establishing a relationship which would last through the present time.
Throughout each decade, Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. focused on building and maintaining its client relationships, by providing enhanced services and installation techniques with each project.
2000 and Beyond
The beginning of this decade saw yet another Southeast office opening for Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc., in Atlanta, GA, after the company secured several large-scale contracts within the region, including the Georgia Institute of Technology Manufacturing Related Disciplines Complex in Atlanta and RiverCenter for the Performing Arts in Columbus.
Today, Wayne J. Griffin Electric, Inc. continues to secure multi-million dollar project contracts in many industries throughout New England and the Southeast. Significant projects awarded during this decade include the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center expansion and renovation in Lebanon, NH; the Valley Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility expansion in Bessemer, AL; RDU Airport expansion in Raleigh, NC; Hebrew Senior Life - New Bridge on the Charles in Dedham, MA; Von Braun Complex in Redstone Arsenal, AL; Federal Correction Institution in Berlin, NH and the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, NC.
